The Nina Ricci Music Newsletter: We Made it to Monaghan / Recent Updates 4/30/23

 

Dear True Fans and New Fans,   Where do I start?   We made it to Monaghan, Ireland! It was a fantastic trip filled with exciting adventures, learning curves, tasty food, new acquaintances, and music!   In the wake of the trip, I created a vlog documenting our adventures in Ireland and at the Your Roots Are Showing folk music conference. After leaving Ireland, we made one last trip to Mexico, and then we started driving back up around the panhandle. Mom was severely jet-lagged from the trip and Texas was bracing for a Canadian cold front that drove us far and away… over to our dear little Venice, Florida. We drove on the “Forgotten Coast,” a lesser-known piece of Florida that does us good when we need some peaceful miles of un-trafficked coastline. Once we made it to Venice we were thoroughly doused with remedial sunshine and felt like we could bear the last leg of winter (a gift that keeps on giving even here in North Georgia.)

After a couple of weeks of busking (street performing) and relaxation in Florida, we journeyed northward visiting family and friends as we went. I had 2 performances on the books for March, both in Missouri… The Singer Hill House Concert Series in Golden City, MO (out in cowboy country!) and one at a folk venue I had a little dream to play called “Focal Point” in St. Louis, MO. After I finished all of the gigs I had on my schedule, we simply fell off the map. Yes, we were around, but we weren’t sure of our heading. Bookings are sort of like constellations; when we have them, we just drive form star to star, but if I haven’t re-booked… Well, let’s just say the sky becomes clouded and we’re sort of aimlessly flying without vision.   Some doors have closed and finances are tight at this time! However, God always takes care of us and meets our needs when we are journeying with Him. It is in the lean times when we look to Him even more.

I knew I needed to STOP, REGROUP, and REBUILD our tour schedule, as well as, do some creative things, and reinvent. So, our family in North Georgia took us under their wing and into their RV trailer, which has been a wonderful cocoon for me these past couple of weeks. I have been working on new bookings for 2023 (if you want to host a house concert for me or know a venue that would be a fit for me in your area, please let me know!) I am also planning new ways of expressing my talents and artistry that will hopefully be a source of entertainment and future income.

I have a couple of upcoming performances to mention...   I will be in Black Mountain, North Carolina May 5th & 6th for the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance conference and will be co-teaching a vocal workshop called "Vocal Techniques for Performers" and will be showcasing in the wee hours in a traditional music showcase called "Roots & Sources" (12:40-1am.)   In addition, I have added the Woodstock Folk Festival to my tour schedule and I will be performing on the main stage. I am quite excited about this fest! The organizer sent me the dearest email and I already feel that the festival is going to be a good’n… I think the adventure may be worthy of another ‘Hard Travelin’ vlog… The festival is on old tribal land!
